Ceiling Lights

Ceiling lights are one of the most commonly used lighting used in a residential setting. They are used as the main source of lighting in a living area due to it's lux measurement and it's size. They can come in as a single fixture or multiple and they can come in different presets of light tint. These presets can be used for different settings as and when they are needed. There are also ceiling fan fixtures that comes with a ceiling light at the centre for a more multi-purpose fixture. When choosing the ceiling light, they can be the centre piece of a living area. The design of the ceiling lights depend on the design of the living area itself and when done right the ceiling light can complement the design of the living area giving a cohesive design for the living area.

Down Lights

Down Lights

Down lights are versatile when it comes to lighting in a residential unit. They can function as secondary lights in a living area or main lights in a living area. Down Lights are relatively small compared to ceiling lights which means if the intended use is as a main source of light, A lot more down lights would be needed. Down lights are usually used when there is a feature ceiling design at the living area. The down lights lights up the area with the feature ceiling design the main ceiling piece for the living area. As for using it as secondary lights, they will usually be places on the ceiling border of the living area to demarcate where the living area is. They usually come in a single light tint but an easy way around is to have two different down lights in two light tints to have that extra lighting preset in a living area.

Track Lights

Track Lighting

Track lighting is a specific form of lighting which is common in industrial styled living areas. It comes in different designs that can be used in different styles apart from industrial styled living areas as well. Unlike down lights, track lighting are mostly used as secondary lights. They are used to highlight areas in a living area for example a feature wall or a painting in a living area. Like the name suggests, track lighting requires a track and it comes with three track lights in a single track. They can be adjusted individually along the track and it can put things in focus by directing light on it. They can also be used to light up certain dark spots in a living area without making a living area too bright.

Conclusion

These are the three different types of lights commonly used in a living area for a residential unit. They can also be used in tandem with one another creating a more robust lighting solution for your home. An example would be using the ceiling lights and the down lights together in a living area. As usual it depends on the design of the living area as to which one is suitable for your home.
