Wood is one of the most common material in any project. It can come in various forms and today we will be talking about 3 ways how we can use wood. To be clear this does not only apply to natural wood but it applies to wood laminates as well. I will also base this article for wood applications in residential projects and with that out of the way, here are 3 ways that wood can be used in a space.

Feature Wall

This is one of the most common way wood can be used in a residential space. More often than not, wood is used as a TV feature wall in a living area. It can be applied either by using wood laminates or using natural wood planks attached to the selected living room feature wall. Using wood can add texture to the living room as wood is generally heavily textured. Making it a great choice to put focus on the living room. This is to draw in the attention of people to the wall when done right in design making it a feature piece in any living area.

Another way wood can be used though not as eye catching as a feature wall but more to using wood's durability for a flooring material. This extends to outdoor panelling and vinyl flooring. To clarify vinyl flooring is not technically wood but most vinyls have wood textures and this is what I am referring to. Wood as flooring can help to identify a space from one another whether it is from an interior or to an area. It can also be used to associate one space to another. Wood flooring can also be more comfortable compared to using floor tiles. Due to the colour and texture of wood as well, wood flooring can make a space warmer compared to using floor tiles. This includes outdoor flooring as well where wood floor panels are more widely used compared to other materials.

Ceiling

Ceiling

Using wood for ceiling detail would be one of the new things done especially in the context of a Singaporean home. At times it could be a false ceiling with wood laminates install on it or it could also by the use of wood panelling on the ceiling .

This can also help bring focus to a space but unlike a feature wall, it can help to demarcate a space without having a wall. One of the examples would be the dining area. Highlighting the lighting fixtures above it making sure the dining area is separated from the living area. Most of the time this is considered a luxury due to costs but ceiling design can be one of the ways where a design can be enhanced.

Above are just one of the few ways to use wood. There are a lot more that can be done with it in the context of how do you use the material which of course depends on the design. With wood a house can help make a design stronger depending how it is applied. It can be used for a lot of things, it is up to the materials,design and the cost of where it can go to.
